Rt. Rev. Hugh Hamilton was born on 26 March 1729.2 He was the son of Alexander Hamilton and Isabella Maxwell.3 He married Isabella Wood, daughter of Hans Widman Wood and Frances King, on 6 August 1772.2 He died on 1 December 1805 at age 76.2
He held the office of Dean of Armagh.2 He held the office of Lord Bishop of Clonfert in 1796.2 He graduated with a Doctor of Divinity (D.D.)2 He held the office of Bishop of Ossory between 1798 and 1805.
