     He held the office of Solicitor-General for Ireland.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Belfast between 1769 and 1776.1 He held the office of Baron of the Exchequer after 1776.2 He lived at Hampton Hall, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland.1

     Brig.-Gen. Otway Charles Herbert was born on 1 July 1877.1 He was the son of Gustavus Wybrants Herbert and Annie Catherine Herbert.1 He married Hilda Marion Jones, daughter of B. Whitney Jones, on 23 April 1913.1 He died on 5 December 1955 at age 78, without issue.1
     He fought in the First World War.1 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.) in 1915.1 He was awarded the Chevalier, Ordre national de la Légion d’honneur.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1918.1 He gained the rank of Brigadier-General in the Argyll and Sutherlands Highlanders.1
