George Gordon, 5th Earl of Huntly1 
He purchased lands of Rothiemurchus on 26 November 1539 from Alan Ciar MacIain Mackintosh of Rothiemurchus, 7th Chief of Clan Shaw.2 On 8 February 1562/63 he was found guilty of treason, and narrowly escaped a death sentence.1 He held the office of Lord Chancellor [Scotland] from March 1564/65 to 1567.1 He succeeded as the 5th Earl of Huntly [S., 1445] in 1567, after being restored to this title.1 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.3
