     Kenneth Mackenzie, 1st Lord Mackenzie of Kintail was born illegitimately in 1573.^1,2 He was the son of Sir Colin Mackenzie, 11th of Kintail and Barbara Grant.^3,4 He married, firstly, Jean Anne Ross, daughter of George Ross, 10th of Balnagowan and Marion Campbell.⁵ He married, secondly, Isabel Ogilvy, daughter of Sir Gilbert Ogilvy of Powrie and Sybilla Drummond, before 12 March 1607.⁶ He died on 27 February 1610/11.¹
     He held the office of Hereditary Constable of the Castle of the Bishop of Ross in 1595.¹ He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Scotland] in February 1595/96.¹ He was created 1st Lord Mackenzie of Kintail [Scotland] on 17 November 1609.¹ He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Inverness-shire in 1610.¹ He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Nairn-shire in 1610.¹ He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Cromarty in 1610.¹ He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Elgin in 1610.¹ He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Fife in 1610.¹
