(Conservative) for Bury St. Edmunds between 1859 and 1864.1 He held the office of Hereditary High Steward of Bury St. Edmunds.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Earl Jermyn of Horningsheath, Suffolk [U.K., 1826] on 30 October 1864.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Marquess of Bristol [U.K., 1826] on 30 October 1864.1 He succeeded as the 7th Earl of Bristol [G.B., 1714] on 30 October 1864.1 He succeeded as the 8th Baron Hervey of Ickworth, Suffolk [E., 1703] on 30 October 1864.1 He gained the rank of Honorary Colonel in the 3rd Battalion, Suffolk Militia.2 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Suffolk between 1866 and 1907.1
His Times obituary stated that “he was one of the few peers of the realm who for many years cheerfully aided, by his influential contributions, every practical movement for the the settlement of national disputes without recourse to the arbitration of war.”1
