William Moncreiffe of that Ilk, younger1 
He was also known as William Moncreiff of that Ilk.3 In 1543 he was a hostage in England for his father’s ransom.2 In 1544 he was released (the ransom never paid) to take part in Lennox’s rebellion.2 In 1552 he entered the French Service.2 He was commanding officer of the Moncreiffe’s Regiment of Scottish mercenaries in the Swedish service which he had raised.2 In April 1574 he joined a plot to reinstate the mad King Eric XIV of Sweden by killing King John during an exhibition sword dance. The plot failed, he was arrested and never heard of again.2 He had three other daughters.2
