Britannia, EnglandG.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1897 in the Royal Navy.1 He gained the rank of Commander in 1909.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1915.1 He succeeded as the 8th Viscount Kelburn [S., 1703] on 13 December 1915.1 He succeeded as the 8th Earl of Glasgow [S., 1703] on 13 December 1915.1 He succeeded as the 8th Lord Boyle, of Kelburn, Stewartoun, Finnick, Largs and Dalry [S., 1699] on 13 December 1915.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Fairlie of Fairlie, Ayrshire [U.K., 1897] on 13 December 1915.1 He succeeded as the 8th Lord Boyle, of Stewartoun, Cumbraes, Fenwick, Largs and Dalry [S., 1703] on 13 December 1915.1 He retired from the military in 1919, with the rank of Captain.1 He was admitted to Lieutenant of the Royal Company of Archers.1 He held the office of Vice-Lord-Lieutenant of Ayrshire between 1942 and 1963.1
