Charles Howard, 1st Earl of Nottingham was born circa 1536.1 He was the son of William Howard, 1st Baron Howard of Effingham and Margaret Gamage.1 He married, firstly, Katherine Carey, daughter of Henry Carey, 1st Baron Hunsdon of Hunsdon and Ann Morgan, circa July 1563.1 He married, secondly, Lady Margaret Stuart, daughter of James Stuart, 2nd Lord Doune and Elizabeth Stewart, Countess of Moray, circa September 1603.4 He died on 14 December 1624.
He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Howard of Effingham, co. Surrey [E., 1554] on 21 January 1572/73.1 He was appointed Knight, Order of the Garter (K.G.) in 1574.1 He held the office of Lord High Admiral [England] in 1588, who was in supreme command at the defeat of the Spanish Armada in 1588.1 He was created 1st Earl of Nottingham [England] on 22 October 1596.1

Grania Maeve Rosaura Guinness, daughter of Walter Edward Guinness, 1st Baron Moyne and Lady Evelyn Hilda Stuart Erskine, on 10 February 1951.3 He died on 30 January 1994 at age 81.1
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.1 He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.1 He succeeded as the 4th Marquess of Normanby, co. She was Section Officer, Women’s Auxiliary Air Force during the Second World War.1 From 10 February 1951, her married name became Phipps. After her marriage, Hon. Grania Maeve Rosaura Guinness was styled as Marchioness of Normanby on 10 February 1951. She held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for North Yorkshire between 1971 and 1983.1 She was Pro Chancellor of Dublin University between 1985 and 1995.1 She was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 2000.1
