Ross, on 28 April 1934.1
     Lady Gertrude Elizabeth Phipps usually went by her middle name of Elizabeth.3 Her married name became Davis.

     Admiral Sir William Wellclose Davis was born on 11 October 1901 at Simla, Punjab, IndiaG.3 He was the son of Walter Stewart Davis and Georgina Jessie C. Ross.4 He married Lady Gertrude Elizabeth Phipps, daughter of Constantine Charles Henry Phipps, 3rd Marquess of Normanby and Gertrude Stansfeld Forster, on 28 April 1934.5 He died on 29 October 1987 at age 86 at Gloucester, Gloucestershire, EnglandG.3
     He was awarded the Companion, Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) and bar.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.)5 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.)1
