     Sir John Stewart of Grandtully, 3rd Bt. was born on 29 September 1687.² He was the son of Sir Thomas Stewart of Balcaskie, 1st Bt. and Lady Jean Mackenzie.² He married, firstly, Elizabeth Mackenzie, daughter of Sir James Mackenzie of Roystoun, 1st Bt. and Elizabeth Mackenzie, on 13 January 1725.¹ He married, secondly, Lady Jane Douglas, daughter of James Douglas, 2nd Marquess of Douglas and Lady Mary Kerr, on 4 August 1746 in a secret marriage.³ He married, thirdly, Hon. Helen Murray, daughter of Alexander Murray, 4th Lord Elibank and Elizabeth Stirling, on 12 September 1761.⁴ He died on 14 June 1764 at age 76.³
     He succeeded as the 3rd Baronet Stewart, of Blair and Balcaskie, co. Fife [N.S., 1683] on 1 November 1759.²

     Archibald James Edward Douglas, 1st Baron Douglas of Douglas was born on 10 July 1748 at Madame le Brun’s house, Fauborg St. Germain, Paris, France^G.² He was the son of Sir John Stewart of Grandtully, 3rd Bt. and Lady Jane Douglas.¹ He married, firstly, Lady Lucy Graham, daughter of William Graham, 2nd Duke of Montrose and Lady Lucy Manners, on 13 June 1771 at St. George’s Church, St. George Street, Hanover Square, London, England^G.³ He married, secondly, Lady Frances Scott, daughter of Francis Scott, Earl of Dalkeith and Caroline Campbell, Baroness Greenwich, on 13 May 1783 at Grosvenor Square, Mayfair, London, England^G.³ He died on 26 December 1827 at age 79 at Bothwell Castle, Lanarkshire, Scotland^G.³ He was buried at Douglas, Scotland^G.³
     He was given the name of Archibald James Edward Stewart at birth.¹ He was educated in 1759 at Rugby School, Rugby, Warwickshire, England^G.² He was educated at Winchester College, Winchester, Hampshire, England^G.¹ On 9 September 1761 his name was legally changed to Archibald James Edward Douglas only being served heir of entail to his uncle, the 3rd Marquess of Douglas.¹ In July 1767 the Court of Session decided he was not the rightful heir to the Douglas estates.¹ On 27 February 1769 the House of Lords reversed this decision, deciding that he was the rightful heir to the Douglas estates (the ‘Douglas Case’). The Duke of Hamilton claimed he was the heir on the grounds that Archibald was not the son of his mother (twin sons born to a woman 51 years old does seem unlikely.)¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Tory) for Forfarshire between 1782 and 1790.¹ He was created 1st Baron Douglas of Douglas, co. Lanark [Great Britain] on 8 July 1790.¹ He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Forfarshire between 1794 and 1827.¹

     Sir Duncan Grant, 1st of Freuchie was born before 1413.² He was the son of Sir John Roy Grant and Matilda of Glencarnie.¹ He died in 1495.²
     He had two other sons.¹

     William Graham, 2nd Duke of Montrose was born on 27 August 1712.¹ He was the son of James Graham, 1st Duke of Montrose and Lady Christian Carnegie.² He married Lady Lucy Manners, daughter of John Manners, 2nd Duke of Rutland and Lucy Sherard, on 28 October 1742.¹ He died on 23 September 1790 at age 78 at Twickenham, London, England^G.¹
     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.² He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Graham of Belford, co. Northumberland [G.B., 1722] on 30 September 1731.² He succeeded as the 2nd Earl Graham [G.B., 1722] on 30 September 1731.² He succeeded as the 5th Earl of Kincardine [S., 1644] on 7 January 1742.² He succeeded as the 11th Lord Graham [S., 1445] on 7 January 1742.² He succeeded as the 9th Earl of Montrose [S., 1503] on 7 January 1742.² He succeeded as the 5th Lord Graham and Mugdock [S., 1644] on 7 January 1742.² He succeeded as the 2nd Earl of Kincardine [S., 1707] on 7 January 1742.² He succeeded as the 2nd Marquess of Graham and Buchanan [S., 1707] on 7 January 1742.² He succeeded as the 2nd Duke of Montrose [S., 1707] on 7 January 1742.³ He succeeded as the 5th Marquess of Montrose [S., 1644] on 7 January 1742.² He succeeded as the 2nd Lord Aberuthven, Mugdock and Fintry [S., 1707] on 7 January 1742.² He succeeded as the 2nd Viscount of Dundaff [S., 1707] on 7 January 1742.²

     Lady Lucy Manners was born circa 1717.² She was the daughter of John Manners, 2nd Duke of Rutland and Lucy Sherard.^2,1 She married William Graham, 2nd Duke of Montrose, son of James Graham, 1st Duke of Montrose and Lady Christian Carnegie, on 28 October 1742.¹ She died on 18 June 1788.³
     After her marriage, Lady Lucy Manners was styled as Duchess of Montrose on 28 October 1742. From 28 October 1742, her married name became Graham.

     John Manners, 2nd Duke of Rutland was born on 18 September 1676.³ He was the son of John Manners, 1st Duke of Rutland and Hon. Catherine Noel.³ He married, firstly, Catherine Russell, daughter of Rt. Hon. William Russell, Lord Russell and Lady Rachel Wriothesley, on 23 August 1693.⁴ He married, secondly, Lucy Sherard, daughter of Bennet Sherard, 2nd Baron Sherard and Elizabeth Christopher, on 1 January 1713.³ He died on 22 February 1721 at age 44.³
     He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Leicestershire from 1701 to 1702.³ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Derbyshire between February 1701 and June 1701.³ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Grantham between 1705 and 1710.³ He was a Commissioner for the Union with Scotland in 1706.³ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Leicestershire between November 1710 and February 1710/11.³ He succeeded as the 2nd Marquess of Granby, co. Nottingham [E., 1703] on 10 January 1710/11.³ He succeeded as the 2nd Duke of Rutland [E., 1703] on 10 January 1710/11.¹ He succeeded as the 2nd Lord Manners of Haddon [E., 1679] on 10 January 1710/11.³ He succeeded as the 10th Earl of Rutland [E., 1525] on 10 January 1710/11.³ He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Rutland between 1712 and 1715.³ He was appointed Knight, Order of the Garter (K.G.) in 1714.³ He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire from 1714 to February 1720/21.³

     Archibald Douglas, 2nd Baron Douglas of Douglas was born on 25 March 1773.¹ He was the son of Archibald James Edward Douglas, 1st Baron Douglas of Douglas and Lady Lucy Graham.² He died on 27 January 1844 at age 70 at Bothwell Castle, Lanarkshire, Scotland^G, unmarried.³
     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England^G.¹ He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Douglas of Douglas, co. Lanark [G.B., 1790] on 26 December 1827.¹

     Charles Douglas, 3rd Baron Douglas of Douglas was born on 26 October 1775.¹ He was the son of Archibald James Edward Douglas, 1st Baron Douglas of Douglas and Lady Lucy Graham.¹ He died on 10 September 1848 at age 72 at 6 St. George’s Place, Hyde Park, London, England^G, from paralysis, unmarried.² He was buried in 1880 at Old St. Bride’s Church, Douglas, Lanarkshire, Scotland.²
     He was admitted to Lincoln’s Inn as a barrister in 1802.¹ He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Tory) for Lanarkshire between 1830 and 1832.¹ He suffered from a seizure, which affected his speech in 1831.² He succeeded as the 3rd Baron Douglas of Douglas, co. Lanark [G.B., 1790] on 27 January 1844.¹

     Lady Frances Scott was born on 26 July 1750 posthumously.² She was the daughter of Francis Scott, Earl of Dalkeith and Caroline Campbell, Baroness Greenwich.^1,3 She married Archibald James Edward Douglas, 1st Baron Douglas of Douglas, son of Sir John Stewart of Grandtully, 3rd Bt. and Lady Jane Douglas, on 13 May 1783 at Grosvenor Square, Mayfair, London, England^G.² She died on 31 March 1817 at age 66.⁴ She was buried at Douglas, Scotland^G.²
     Her married name became Douglas.
     Sir Walter Scott, who was a close firend of hers, says that she was very talented and witty, yet was quite without vanity, and of perfectly good nature.²

     Caroline Campbell, Baroness Greenwich was born on 17 November 1717 at Sudbrooke, Surrey, England^G.¹ She was the daughter of Field Marshal John Campbell, 2nd Duke of Argyll and Jane Warburton.² She married, firstly, Francis Scott, Earl of Dalkeith, son of Francis Scott, 2nd Duke of Buccleuch and Lady Jane Douglas, on 2 October 1742 at Bruton Street, London, England^G.³ She married, secondly, Rt. Hon. Charles Townshend, son of Charles Townshend, 3rd Viscount Townshend of Raynham and Audrey Ethelreda Harrison, on 15 August 1755 at Adderbury, Oxfordshire, England^G.¹ She died on 11 January 1794 at age 76 at Sudbrooke, Surrey, England^G, without surviving male issue.^1,3
     From 2 October 1742, her married name became Scott. Her married name became Townshend. She was created 1st Baroness Greenwich, co. Kent [Great Britain] on 28 August 1767, with a remainder to her male issue by her 2nd husband, Mr. Townsend.⁴
     As her two sons by her second husband predeceased , the Barony became extinct at her death.⁴
