Edward Pellew, 1st Viscount Exmouth

Edward Pellew, 1st Viscount Exmouth was born on 19 April 1757.2 He was the son of Samuel Pellew and Constantia Langford.3 He married Susannah Frowde, daughter of James Frowde, on 28 May 1783 at East Knoyle, Wiltshire, England.2,4 He died on 23 January 1833 at age 75.2
He was commissioned in 1770, in the service of the Royal Navy.2 He gained the rank of Commander in 1780.2 He gained the rank of Post Captain in 1782.2 He was appointed Knight in 1793 for capturing the French frigate Cleopatra.2 He was created 1st Baronet Pellew, of Exmouth, co. Devon [Great Britain] on 18 March 1796, for saving the troops and crew of the transport Dutton.2 He was Colonel of the Royal Marines between 1801 and 1804.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Tory) for Barnstaple between 1802 and 1804.2 He gained the rank of Rear-Admiral in 1804.2 He was Commander-in-Chief of the East Indies between 1804 and 1809.3 He gained the rank of Vice-Admiral in 1808.2 He was Commander-in-Chief of the North Sea in 1810.3 He was Commander-in-Chief of the Mediterranean between 1811 and 1816.3 He gained the rank of Admiral of the Blue in 1814.2 He was created 1st Baron Exmouth of Canonteign, co.
