He was educated at Repton School, Repton, Derbyshire, EnglandG.2 He was educated at Bettesworth’s Academy, Chelsea, London, EnglandG.2 He was commissioned in 1793, in the service of the Royal Navy.2 He fought in the Battle of Quiberon Bay in 1795, where he was wounded.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1799.2 He was Ordnance Barrack Master at Isle of Wight, EnglandG.2 He was Ordnance Storekeeper between 1808 and 1817 at Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, IrelandG.2 On 29 October 1818 he successfully claimed the Earldom of Huntingdon.2 He succeeded as the 12th Earl of Huntingdon [E., 1529] on 14 January 1819.2 He gained the rank of Commander in 1821.2 He held the office of Governor of Dominica between 1822 and 1824.2 He gained the rank of Post Captain in 1824.2
