He was educated on 2 February 1962 at Wellington College, Crowthorne, Berkshire, England.1 He graduated from New College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1922 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He was with the Diplomatic Service between 1923 and 1962.1 He was appointed Commander, Royal Victorian Order (C.V.O.) in 1938.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1939.1 He was admitted to the Royal Company of Archers.1 He held the office of Ambassador to the U.S.A. between 1948 and 1950.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.) in 1949.1 He held the office of U.K. Representative to NATO between 1950 and 1953.1 He held the office of High Commissioner to West Germany between 1953 and 1955.1 He graduated from New College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1954 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of St. Michael and St. George (G.C.M.G.) in 1955.1 He was Ambassador to West Germany between 1955 and 1957.1 He held the office of King of Arms of the Order of St. Michael and St. George.1 He held the office of Permanent Under-Secretary Foreign Office between 1957 and 1961.1 He was created 1st Baron Inchyra, of St. Madoes, co.
