Richard Aldred Lumley, 12th Earl of Scarbrough was born on 5 December 1932.1 He was the son of Lawrence Roger Lumley, 11th Earl of Scarbrough and Katherine Isobel McEwen.3 He married Lady Elizabeth Anne Ramsay, daughter of Simon Ramsay, 16th Earl of Dalhousie and Margaret Elizabeth Mary Stirling, on 9 July 1970.1 He died on 23 March 2004 at age 71 at Sandbeck, Yorkshire, EnglandG.4
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.1 He gained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant between 1951 and 1952 in the 11th Hussars.1 He was educated at Magdalen College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant between 1952 and 1956 in the Queen’s Own Yorkshire Dragoons.1 He was Aide-de-Camp to Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Cyprus in 1956.1 He succeeded as the 13th Viscount Lumley of Waterford [I., 1628] on 29 June 1969.1 He succeeded as the 12th Viscount Lumley [E., 1689] on 29 June 1969.1 He succeeded as the 12th Baron Lumley, of Lumley Castle [E., 1681] on 29 June 1969.1 He succeeded as the 12th Earl of Scarbrough [E., 1690] on 29 June 1969.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of South Yorkshire between 1974 and 1990.1 He held the office of Vice-Lord Lieutenant (D.L.) of South Yorkshire between 1990 and 1996.1 He held the office of Lord Lieutenant (D.L.) of South Yorkshire in 1996.1
