     Sir Alexander Maxwell is the son of Sir Aymer de Maxwell and Mary de Mearns.¹
     He was living circa 1300.¹

     Sir Eustace de Maxwell of Carlaverock was the son of Sir John de Maxwell of Carlaverock.¹ He died on 3 March 1342.¹
     Before 1312 he occupied Carlaverock on behalf of King Edward II.¹ Circa 1312 he switched sides to King Robert I of the Scots.¹ He switched back, supporting the claim of Edward Balliol to the Scottish throne.¹ In 1338 he then rose against the English.¹ In 1339 he was pardoned by King Edwrd III.¹

     Herbert de Maxwell is the son of Sir John de Maxwell.¹
     In September 1347 he swore fealty to King Edward III, for which he held Carlaverock, and was outlawed by the Scots.¹

     Elizabeth Beaumont is the daughter of Sir Francis Beaumont.¹ She married Robert Maxwell, 1st Earl of Nithsdale, son of John Maxwell, 7th Lord Maxwell and Lady Elizabeth Douglas, on 28 October 1619.¹
     From 28 October 1619, her married name became Maxwell.¹ After her marriage, Elizabeth Beaumont was styled as Countess of Nithsdale on 29 August 1620.

     Robert Maxwell, 2nd Earl of Nithsdale was born on 1 September 1620.¹ He was the son of Robert Maxwell, 1st Earl of Nithsdale and Elizabeth Beaumont.¹ He died on 5 October 1667 at age 47, unmarried.¹
     A Royalist during the Civil War.¹ He succeeded as the 9th Lord Maxwell [S., 1445] in May 1646.¹ He succeeded as the 2nd Earl of Nithsdale [S., 1620] in May 1646.¹ He succeeded as the 2nd Lord Maxwell, Eskdale and Carleill [S., 1620] in May 1646.¹

     Margaret Munduell is the daughter of Henry Munduell.¹ She married Sir Edward Maxwell, son of Herbert Maxwell, 1st Lord Maxwell and unknown daughter Herries.¹
     Her married name became Maxwell.¹

     Egidia Douglas married Edward Maxwell, son of Sir Edward Maxwell and Margaret Munduell.¹ She died circa 1509.¹
     Her married name became Maxwell.¹

     Edward Maxwell was the son of Edward Maxwell.¹ He died circa 1514.¹

     Edward Maxwell was the son of William Maxwell.¹ He married Elizabeth Maxwell.¹ He died circa 1566.¹
