     He was in the Indian Civil Service between 1877 and 1897.¹ He held the office of Under Secretary and Officiating Secretary, Indian Government between 1887 and 1889.¹ He was Settlement Commissioner of Kashmir between 1889 and 1895.¹ He was Agent in Charge to the Duke of Bedford between 1895 and 1898.¹ He was Private Secretary to the Viceroy of India between 1898 and 1903.¹ He was Chief of Staff to HRH The Prince of Wales during his tour of India between 1905 and 1906.¹ He was appointed Knight Grand Commander, Order of the Indian Empire (G.C.I.E.) in 1906.¹ He was created 1st Baronet Lawrence, of Sloane Gardens, Chelsea [U.K.] on 13 July 1906.¹ He held the office of Member of the Council of India between 1907 and 1909.¹ He gained the rank of Temporary Colonel in 1914 in the Army.¹ He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1917.¹ He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Royal Victorian Order (G.C.V.O.) in 1918.¹ He gained the rank of Temporary Major-General in 1919.¹ He was appointed Knight of Grace, Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (K.G.St.J.)¹

     Lilian Gertrude James was born in 1858.² She was the daughter of John Gwynne James and Elizabeth Poole.^3,2 She married Sir Walter Roper Lawrence, 1st Bt., son of George Lawrence and Catherine Lewis, on 18 March 1885.¹ She died on 18 December 1929.¹
     From 18 March 1885, her married name became Lawrence.²

     John Going Versturme-Bunbury was born on 12 August 1918 at Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.¹ He was the son of John Clement Paillet Versturme-Bunbury and Dorothy Going.¹ He died on 17 August 1943 at age 25 at Falcon Field, Mesa City, Arizona, U.S.A., killed in a training accident when his airplane collided with another mid-air.¹
     He gained the rank of Leading Aircraftman in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.¹

     Henry Walter Neville Lawrence was born on 26 October 1891 at India.¹ He was the son of Sir Walter Roper Lawrence, 1st Bt. and Lilian Gertrude James.² He married Sarah Butler, daughter of Nicholas Murray Butler, on 27 April 1933.³ He died on 24 May 1959 at age 67.³

     Walter Nicholas Murray Lawrence was born on 8 February 1935.¹ He is the son of Henry Walter Neville Lawrence and Sarah Butler.² He married Sally Louise O’Dwyer, daughter of Lt.-Col. Alleyn Becher O’Dwyer, on 29 April 1961.¹
