Jeffrey Amherst was baptised on 29 July 1677.3 He was the son of Jeffery Amherst and Elizabeth Yates.3 He married Elizabeth Kerrill, daughter of Thomas Kerrill. He died on 21 October 1750 at age 73 at Riverhead, Sevenoaks, Kent, EnglandG.1
He was admitted to Gray’s Inn entitled to practise as a barrister.1 He held the office of Bencher of Gray’s Inn.3 He lived at Riverhead, Sevenoaks, Kent, EnglandG.1

Field Marshal Jeffrey Amherst, 1st Baron Amherst of Holmesdale was born on 29 January 1716/17.1 He was the son of Jeffrey Amherst and Elizabeth Kerrill.1 He married, firstly, Jane Dalison, daughter of Thomas Dalison and Jane Etherington, on 20 May 1753 at Gray’s Inn Chapel, London, EnglandG.3 He married, secondly, Elizabeth Cary, daughter of Lt.-Gen. Hon. George Cary and Isabella Ingram, on 26 March 1767 at Clifford Street, St. James’s, London, EnglandG.3 He died on 3 August 1797 at age 80 at Montreal, Kent, EnglandG, without issue.3 He was buried on 10 August 1797 at Sevenoaks, Kent, EnglandG.3 His will was proven (by probate) in August 1797.3

Walpole described him as “provident, methodic, conciliating and cool.”1 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.4
On his death, the Barony Amherst of Holmesdale became exinct, and the Barony of Montreal went to his nephew, William Pitt AMherst, as per its remainder.3
