     Ellen Mangles was born on 3 September 1807 at Guildford, Surrey, England.2 She was the daughter of James Mangles and Mary Hughes.3,4 She married Admiral Sir James Stirling, son of Andrew Stirling of Drumpellier and Anne Dorothea Stirling, on 3 September 1823.1 She died on 8 June 1874 at age 66.1
     From 3 September 1823, her married name became Stirling.

     Vice-Admiral Frederick Henry Stirling was born on 26 March 1829.1 He was the son of Admiral Sir James Stirling and Ellen Mangles.2 He married Helen Cecilia Deas-Thomson, daughter of Sir Edward Deas-Thomson and Anne Maria Bourke, on 15 July 1874 at St. Andrews Cathedral, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.1 He died in 1885.1
     He gained the rank of Vice-Admiral.1
