Maj.-Gen. Sir Herbert Stewart was born on 30 June 1843.1 He was the son of Reverend Edward Stewart and Louisa Anne Herbert.3 He married Georgina Janet Stirling, daughter of Admiral Sir James Stirling and Ellen Mangles, on 19 December 1877.1 He died on 16 February 1885 at age 41 at EgyptG, killed in action.1
He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.)1 He held the office of Aide-de-Camp to HM Queen Victoria.1 He fought in the Battle of Metammeh on 16 February 1885.1 He had another son who died young.1
