Sir John Swinton, 25th of that Ilk1 
He was a merchant at The Netherlands.2 In 1661 he returned to Britain at the Restoration.2 In 1690 the decree of forfeiture rescinded and the family estate was restored to him.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Berwickshire between 1690 and 1707.2 He voted for the Union of Scottish and English Parliaments.2

Sir John Swinton, 23rd of that Ilk1 
He was Scottish representative to the English Parliament.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) in 1649.2 He fought in the Battle of Worcester in 1651, where he was taken prisoner.2 In 1651 he was forfeit as to his estates and excommunicated.2 He held the office of member of the Council of State for Scotland in 1655.2 He was a leading Scots supporter of Cromwell.2 In 1657 he joined the Quakers.2 In 1661 he was tried for high treason and suffered forfeiture and imprisonment, adn was released in 1667.2
