     Sarah Caroline Ellison was born in 1812 at Heworth, County Durham, England.2 She was the daughter of Cuthbert Ellison.3 She was baptised on 30 December 1812.2 She married Walter Charles James, 1st Baron Northbourne of Betteshanger, son of John James and Lady Emily Jane Stewart, on 17 April 1841.1 She died on 21 January 1890.1
     From 17 April 1841, her married name became James. After her marriage, Sarah Caroline Ellison was styled as Baroness Northbourne of Betteshanger on 5 November 1884.

     He graduated with a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.)1
