     Vera Catherine Garratt was born in 1896 at Rokeby, Blackrock, County Dublin, Ireland^G.¹ She was the daughter of Joseph Henry Garratt and Catherine Frances Rochfort.¹ She married James Williamson.¹ She and John Lindsay Rapaport were engaged on 24 April 1918.¹ She died in 1983.¹
     Her married name became Williamson.¹

Mrs Clare Dening, 25 June 1935¹

     Clare de Burgh Garratt was born on 11 September 1897 at Rokeby, Blackrock, County Dublin, Ireland^G.¹ She was the daughter of Joseph Henry Garratt and Catherine Frances Rochfort.¹ She married Maj.-Gen. Roland Dening, son of Lt.-Gen. Sir Lewis Dening and Beatrice Catherine Scott, on 4 January 1917 at St. Peter and Paul, Wadhurst, Sussex, England^G.¹ She died on 18 November 1992 at age 95 at St. Helena, Cullonpton, Devon, England^G.¹
     From 4 January 1917, her married name became Dening.¹ She was awarded the Kaisar-i-Hind Gold Medal in 1942.¹ She was appointed Dame of Grace, Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (D.St.J.) on 1 November 1963.¹

Maj.-Gen. Roland Dening ¹

     Maj.-Gen. Roland Dening was born on 13 September 1888 at Meerut, India.¹ He was the son of Lt.-Gen. Sir Lewis Dening and Beatrice Catherine Scott.¹ He married Clare de Burgh Garratt, daughter of Joseph Henry Garratt and Catherine Frances Rochfort, on 4 January 1917 at St. Peter and Paul, Wadhurst, Sussex, England^G.¹ He died on 9 March 1978 at age 89 at Tipton Lodge, Tipton St. John, Devon, England.¹
     He was educated at Wellington College, Crowthorne, Berkshire, England^G.¹ He was educated at Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, Kent, England^G.¹ He was commissioned in 1907, in the service of the Royal Artillery.¹ He fought in the First World War between 1914 and 1918, in France, Palestine and Syria.¹ He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.)¹ He gained the rank of Major in 1922.¹ He was appointed Member, Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.)¹ He gained the rank of Brevet Lieutenant-Colonel in 1930.¹ He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1933.¹ He was Commandant of the 19 KGO Lancers between 1934 and 1936.¹ He gained the rank of Colonel in 1936.¹ He gained the rank of Major-General in 1940.¹ He was Commander of the Peshawar District between 1940 and 1943.¹ He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1942.¹

Lt.-Gen Sir Lewis Dening ¹

     Lt.-Gen. Sir Lewis Dening was born on 23 May 1848 at Pitt House, Ottery St. Mary, Devon, England.¹ He was the son of John Dening and Anne Salter.¹ He married, firstly, Eliza Janet Eales, daughter of Dr. William Penn Hele Eales and Honoria Susanna Combe, on 5 September 1872 at St. Andrews, Plymouth, Devon, England.¹ He married, secondly, Beatrice Catherine Scott, daughter of Dr. Edward John Scott and Helen Robertson, on 30 October 1877 at All Saint’s Church, Upper Norwood, Londonn, England.¹ He died on 16 February 1911 at age 62.¹
     He fought in the Afghan War between 1878 and 1879.¹ He fought in the Burma Expedition between 1886 and 1888.¹ He fought in the Dongola Expedition in 1896.¹ He fought in the North-West Frontier in 1897, and was mentioned in despatches.¹ He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.)¹ He fought in the Waziristan Campaign between 1901 and 1902.¹ He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.)¹

Beatrice, Lady Dening ¹

     Beatrice Catherine Scott was born on 8 February 1853 at Portland Lodge, Southsea, Hampshire, England.¹ She is the daughter of Dr. Edward John Scott and Helen Robertson.¹ She married Lt.-Gen. Sir Lewis Dening, son of John Dening and Anne Salter, on 30 October 1877 at All Saint’s Church, Upper Norwood, Londonn, England.¹ She died on 24 January 1941 at age 87 at Hampton Court Palace, Kingston-upon-Thames, London, England^G.¹
     From 30 October 1877, her married name became Dening.¹

     John Dening was born on 28 June 1798 at Uffculme, Devon, England.¹ He was the son of William Dening and Sarah Gillham.¹ He married Anne Salter, daughter of Christopher Salter and Elizabeth Spratt, on 12 May 1836 at St. Bartholomew Church, Crewkerne, Somerset, England.¹ He died on 26 January 1868 at age 69 at Pitt House, Ottery St. Mary, Devon, England.¹
