Robert Dalzell, 1st Earl of Carnwath1 
He succeeded as the 2nd Lord Dalzell [S., 1628] between July 1635 and July 1636.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Scotland] in June 1638.3 He was created 1st Earl of Carnwath [Scotland] on 21 April 1639.1 In June 1643 he was accused by the Scottish Convention of betraying the designs of the Scots to the King, and was fined £10,000 Scots.1 On 25 February 1645 he was declared ‘forfeited’ and sentenced to death, with the Act declaring that his son Gavin should immediately receive his estates and the Earldom.1 He fought in the Battle of Naseby on 14 June 1645.1 He fought in the Battle of Worcester on 3 September 1651, where he was taken prisoner, and committed to the Tower.1
