On 14 February 1571/72 he was mentioned in a charter under the Great Seal.1 On 10 July 1596 he obtained a charter on his own assignation under the Great Seal of his lands in Inverness-shire, resigned his lands of Raasay, etc., to Kenneth Mackenzie, Lord Kintail, from whom he got a charter of those lands in 1610.1
