Richard Henry Piers Butler, 17th Viscount Mountgarret was born on 8 November 1936.2 He was the son of Piers Henry Augustus Butler, 16th Viscount Mountgarret and Eglantine Marie Elizabeth Christie.3 He married, firstly, Gillian Margaret Buckley, daughter of Cyril Francis Stewart Buckley and Audrey Burmester, on 20 May 1960.2 He and Gillian Margaret Buckley were divorced in 1970.2 He married, secondly, Jennifer Susan Melville Wills, daughter of Captain Walter Douglas Melville Wills and Pamela Violet Tudway, on 29 April 1970.3 He and Jennifer Susan Melville Wills were divorced in 1983.2 He married, thirdly, Angela Ruth Porter, daughter of Major Thomas G. Porter, on 25 May 1983.2 He died on 7 February 2004 at age 67.4
