Brigadier Archer Francis Lawrence Clive was born on 24 June 1903.3 He was the son of Lt.-Gen. Sir George Sidney Clive and Madeline Buxton.4,3 He married, firstly, Hon. Penelope Isobel Portman, daughter of Gerald Berkeley Portman, 7th Viscount Portman of Bryanston and Dorothy Marie Isolde Sheffield, on 8 February 1934.5 He and Hon. Penelope Isobel Portman were divorced in 1949.3 He married, secondly, Olivia Mary Beatrice Stanley, daughter of Lt.-Col. Hon. Frederick William Stanley and Lady Alexandra Louise Elizabeth Acheson, on 3 October 1950.4 He died in March 1995 at age 91.6
He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow, London, EnglandG.3 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, EnglandG.3 He fought in the Second World War.3 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.) in 1940.4,3 He was commander of the 6th Battalion, Grenadier Guards between 1941 and 1943.3 He was awarded the Companion, Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1943 and bar (1944.)4,3 He was Military Mission to South Africa between 1945 and 1946.3 He retired from the military in 1947, with the rank of Brigadier, late of the Grenadier Guards.4 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) in 1953.4 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) in 1960.4
