Alexander Macdonald, 1st Baron Macdonald of Slate1 
Alexander Macdonald, 1st Baron Macdonald of Slate was born circa 1745.1 He was the son of Sir Alexander Macdonald, 14th of Sleat, 7th Bt. and Lady Margaret Montgomerie.1 He married Elizabeth Diana Bosville, daughter of Godfrey Bosville and Diana Wentworth, on 3 May 1768 at St. Gile’s-in-the-Fields Church, London, EnglandG.1 He died on 12 September 1795.3 He was buried on 23 September 1795 at St. Margaret’s Church, Westminster, London, EnglandG.3
He matriculated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG, on 1 November 1758.3 He gained the rank of Ensign in 1761 in the Coldstream Guards.1 He succeeded as the 9th Baronet Macdonald, of Sleat, in the Isle of Skye, co. Inverness [N.S., 1625] on 26 July 1766.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Inverness-shire.4 He was created 1st Baron Macdonald of Slate, co. Antrim [Ireland] on 25 July 1776.1 In 1778 he raised the Macdonald Higlanders.4 He gained the rank of Brigidier-General in the Royal Company of Archers.4 Between 1794 and 1795 he raised another regiment from the Highlands and the Islands.4
