Horatio Walpole, 1st Earl of Orford1

Horatio Walpole, 1st Earl of Orford was born on 12 June 1723.3 He was the son of Horatio Walpole, 1st Baron Walpole of Wolterton and Mary Magdalen Lombard.3 He married Lady Rachel Cavendish, daughter of William Cavendish, 3rd Duke of Devonshire and Catherine Hoskins, on 12 May 1748.3 He died on 24 February 1809 at age 85.1
He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for King’s Lynn between 1747 and 1757.3 He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Walpole of Wolterton, co. Norfolk [G.B., 1756] on 5 February 1757.3 He succeeded as the 4th Baron Walpole of Walpole, co. Norfolk [G.B., 1723] on 2 March 1797.3 He was created 1st Earl of Orford [U.K.] on 10 April 1806.1

Colonel Thomas Thornton1

Colonel Thomas Thornton was born in 1747.1 He was the son of Colonel William Thornton and Mary Myster.1 He married Eliza Cawston circa 1806.1 He died on 10 March 1823 at Paris, FranceG.1
He was educated at Charterhouse School, Godalming, Surrey, EnglandG.1 He was educated circa 1761 at University of Glasgow, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, ScotlandG.1 In 1772 he founded The Confederate Hawks of Great Britian (‘the Falconer’s Club.1‘) In 1790 he purchased the estate of Allerton Mauleverer (Thornville Royal) from the Duke of York for £110,000.1 He gained the rank of Colonel in the West York Militia.1 He lived at Falconer’s Hall, Yorkshire, EnglandG.1 He and Alicia Meynell were associated circa 1802.1
He was a famous sportsman, involved in falconing, horse-racing and hunting, as well as a successful breeder of horses, dogs and falcons.1
