Sir Thomas Thornhill, 1st Bt. was born on 26 March 1837.2 He was the son of Thomas Thornhill and Martha Mary Anne Waddington.2 He married Katherine Isabella Hodgson, daughter of Richard Hodgson-Huntley and Catherine Moneypenny Compton. He died on 2 April 1900 at age 63.2
He held the office of High Sheriff of Suffolk in 1860.3 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for the Western division of Suffolk between October 1875 and 1885.3 He was created 1st Baronet Thornhill, of Riddlesworth Hall, Riddlesworth, co. Norfolk and of Pakenham Lodge, Pakenham, co. Suffolk [U.K.] on 11 August 1885.3
