     Major James Boyle was born on 12 December 1905 at 20 Wesley Street, Waterloo, Liverpool, Lancashire, England^G.^1,2 He was the son of Reverend James Boyle and Edith Lena Catherine Douglas-Hamilton.¹ He married, firstly, Lillian Wilma Dick, daughter of William Henry Dick and Isabella Wales Dove, in 1937.¹ He and Lillian Wilma Dick were divorced in 1946.¹ He married, secondly, Josephine Ann Raffan, daughter of Dr. George Raffan and Eveline Alice Williams, in 1949.¹ He died on 15 February 1988 at age 82 at Cowra, New South Wales, Australia^G.¹
     He gained the rank of Major in the Royal Engineers.³ He fought in the Second World War, where he became a Japanese POW at Singapore.¹

G. Hine and Frances Osborne, in 1947.¹ She died in 1982.¹
