Between 1641 and 1652 he took part in the rebellion.1 In December 1641 he raised a company 400 strong of Lord Dunboyne’s Levies.1 He besieged the Castle of Golden for eleven weeks.1 On 24 October 1642 he took the oath as Confederate Catholic.1 The ook part in defence of Limerick.1 In February 1650 he was one of garrison of Fethard when it was captured by Cromwell.1 He lived at Boytonrath, County Tipperary, IrelandG.1 On 30 May 1652 he was arrested, then tried and convicted for his part in the rebellion by Cromwellian High Court at Clonmel. with all his estates being forfeited.1

In 1695 he was sent to France with one of the ‘Flights of Wild Geese’ for his education.1 He was commissioned with the rank of Officer, in the service of the Irish Brigade.1 He fought in the Battle of Ramillies.1 He fought in the Battle of Malplaquet.1 In 1713 he returned to Ireland.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for County Clare in 1742.1 He lived at Doone, County Clare, IrelandG.1

Between 1754 and 1769 he took a leadmg part in an attempt to securer the estoration of the estates of his maternal relatveses, the O’Shaughnessys of Gort.1 In 1760 he was a ringleader in the raid and capture of their seat at Gort.1 He subscribed £2,500 for their final appeal to the House of Lords.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the 14th Dragoons.1 He lived at Doone, Killuran, County Clare, IrelandG.3 He lived at Millbrooke, County Clare, IrelandG.1
