He held the office of Vice-Chamberlain to Queen Anne on 14 April 1702.1 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Civil Laws (D.C.L.) by Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, on 27 August 1702.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Lincolnshire between 1708 and 1715.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) on 25 November 1708.1 He succeeded as the 18th Lord Willoughby de Eresby [E., 1313] on 16 March 1714/15, in his father’s lifetime.1 He held the office of a Gentleman of the Bedchamber between 1719 and 1727.1 He succeeded as the 5th Earl of Lindsey, co. Sir John Brownlow, 3rd Bt.1 
He succeeded as the 3rd Baronet Brownlow, of Humby, co. Lincoln [E., 1641] on 30 August 1668.3 On 23 November 1679 he inherited the Belton estates of his great-uncle Sir John, 1st and last Baronet.3 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Grantham from 1689 to 1697.3

Robert Bertie, 4th Duke of Ancaster and Kesteven1 
Robert Bertie, 4th Duke of Ancaster and Kesteven was born on 17 October 1756 at Grimsthorpe, Lincolnshire, EnglandG.1 He was the son of General Peregrine Bertie, 3rd Duke of Ancaster and Kesteven and Mary Panton.1 He died on 8 July 1779 at age 22 at Grimsthorpe, Lincolnshire, EnglandG, from scarlet fever, unmarried.1 He was buried on 22 July 1779 at Edenham, Lincolnshire, EnglandG.1 His will was proven (by probate) in July 1779.1
Circa 1777 he served as a volunteer in North America.1 He succeeded as the 20th Lord Willoughby de Eresby [E., 1313] on 12 August 1778.3 He succeeded as the 4th Duke of Ancaster and Kesteven [G.B., 1715] on 12 August 1778.1 He succeeded as the 4th Marquess of Lindsey [G.B., 1706] on 12 August 1778.1 He succeeded as the 7th Earl of Lindsey, co. Lincoln [E., 1626] on 12 August 1778.4 He held the office of Hereditary Lord Great Chamberlain between 12 August 1778 and 1779.1 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Lincolnshire on 12 February 1779.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) on 12 February 1779.1
Cokayne states that he was addicted to rioting and drunkeness. Walpole writes that he heard that “he has left a legacy to a very small man that was always his companion, and whom, when he was drunk, he used to fling at the heads of the company.”1
On his death, the office of Hereditary Great Lord Chamberlain and the Barony Willoughby de Eresby fell into abeyance between his two sisters, until on 18 March 1780, the abeyance of the Barony found in favour of Priscilla, the eldest.1
