Peerage Record – 1966

     Gerard Gore was born circa 1516.¹ He was the son of John Gore.¹ He married Helen Davenant, daughter of Ralph Davenant.¹ He died on 11 December 1607.¹
     He was granted land in Surrey.¹ He held the office of Alderman of London.²

     Martha Cokayne was baptised on 26 May 1605.³ She was the daughter of Sir William Cokayne and Mary Morris.^1,4 She married, firstly, John Ramsay, 1st and last Earl of Holdernesse in July 1624.³ She married, secondly, Montagu Bertie, 2nd Earl of Lindsey, son of Robert Bertie, 1st Earl of Lindsey and Hon. Elizabeth Montagu, on 18 April 1627.⁴ She died in July 1641 at age 36.³
     From July 1624, her married name became Ramsay.³ Her married name became Bertie.

     John Ramsay, 1st and last Earl of Holdernesse was born circa 1580. He married, firstly, Elizabeth Radcliffe, daughter of Robert Radcliffe, 5th Earl of Sussex and Bridget Morrison, on 8 February 1607/8. He married, secondly, Martha Cokayne, daughter of Sir William Cokayne and Mary Morris, in July 1624.¹ He died circa 1625/26. He was buried on 28 February 1625/26.
     He was created 1st Earl of Holdernesse [England] on 22 January 1620/21.¹

     Bridget Wray, Baroness Norris was born on 12 May 1627. She was the daughter of Edward Wray and Elizabeth Norris, Baroness Norris.^1,2 She married, firstly, Hon. Edward Sackville, son of Edward Sackville, 4th Earl of Dorset and Mary Curzon, before 1646.³ She married, secondly, Montagu Bertie, 2nd Earl of Lindsey, son of Robert Bertie, 1st Earl of Lindsey and Hon. Elizabeth Montagu, between 1646 and 1653.¹ She died circa March 1656/57.³ She was buried on 24 March 1656/57.²
     De jure Baroness Norris in her own right (see LINDSEY and ABINGDON.⁴ She succeeded as the 4th Baroness Norris [E., 1572] circa November 1645, suo jure.¹ From before 1646, her married name became Sackville.³ From between 1646 and 1653, her married name became Bertie.¹ After her marriage, Bridget Wray, Baroness Norris was styled as Countess of Lindsey.

     Sidney Herbert, 14th Earl of Pembroke was born on 20 February 1853.² He was the son of Sidney Herbert, 1st Baron Herbert of Lea and Mary Elizabeth à Court Repington.² He married Lady Beatrix Louisa Lambton, daughter of George Frederick D’Arcy Lambton, 2nd Earl of Durham and Lady Beatrix Frances Hamilton, on 29 August 1877.¹ He died on 30 March 1913 at age 60.²
     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.² He graduated from Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1875 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)² He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Wilton between 1877 and 1885.² He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Croydon between 1886 and 1895.² He gained the rank of Captain in the Wiltshire Yeomanry Cavalry.² He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1895.² He held the office of Lord Steward of the Household between 1895 and 1905.² He succeeded as the 14th Baron Herbert, of Cardiff, co. Glamorgan [E., 1551] on 3 May 1895.² He succeeded as the 14th Earl of Pembroke [E., 1551] on 3 May 1895.² He succeeded as the 11th Baron Herbert of Shurland, in the Isle of Sheppey, co. Kent [E., 1605] on 3 May 1895.² He succeeded as the 3rd Baron Herbert of Lea, co. Wilts [U.K., 1861] on 3 May 1895.² He succeeded as the 11th Earl of Montgomery [E., 1605] on 3 May 1895.² He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Royal Victorian Order (G.C.V.O.) in 1896.² He held the office of Mayor of Wilton in 1899.²

     Mary Elizabeth à Court Repington was the daughter of Lt.-Gen. Charles Ashe à Court Repington and Mary Elizabeth Catherine Gibbs.¹ She married Sidney Herbert, 1st Baron Herbert of Lea, son of General George Augustus Herbert, 11th Earl of Pembroke and Catherine Woronzow, on 12 August 1846.² She died on 30 October 1911.²
     Her married name became Herbert. After her marriage, Mary Elizabeth à Court Repington was styled as Baroness Herbert of Lea on 15 January 1861.

     John Gore was born circa 1485.² He died circa 1575.²

     Andrew Gray, 2nd Lord Gray was the son of Patrick Gray, Master of Gray and Annabella Forbes.² He married, firstly, Janet Keith, daughter of Sir Robert de Keith and Janet Seton, circa March 1463/64.² He married, secondly, Lady Elizabeth Stewart, daughter of John Stewart, 1st Earl of Atholl and Lady Eleanor Sinclair, before 1483.² He married, thirdly, Margaret Houston after 1497.² He married, fourthly, Lady Elizabeth Hay, daughter of William Hay, 1st Earl of Erroll and Lady Beatrix Douglas.² He died in February 1513/14.²
     He succeeded as the 2nd Lord Gray [S., 1445] circa 1469.² He held the office of Hereditary Sheriff of Forfar in 1488.² He took part in the rebellion by King James IV against his father, King James III.² He held the office of Justiciary General North of Forth in 1489.² He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Scotland]² He held the office of Justiciary General South of Forth in 1506.²

     Janet Keith was the daughter of Sir Robert de Keith and Janet Seton.¹ She married Andrew Gray, 2nd Lord Gray, son of Patrick Gray, Master of Gray and Annabella Forbes, circa March 1463/64.²
     From circa March 1463/64, her married name became Gray.²

     Sir Robert de Keith was the son of Sir William Keith and Mary Hamilton.^1,2 He married Janet Seton, daughter of Sir John Seton of Seton.³ He died before 22 September 1446, without male issue.²
     He held the office of Marshal of Scotland.² He was appointed Knight before February 1439/40.²
