He held the office of Lord-in-Waiting to HM King Eward VIII in 1936.2 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Lincolnshire between 1936 and 1950.2 He gained the rank of Squadron Leader in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.2 He fought in the Second World War.2 He held the office of Parliamentary Private Secretary between 1940 and 1941, to the Minister of Aircraft Production.2
