     Katherine Trotter was the daughter of John Trotter.¹ She married Joseph Smijth-Windham, son of Sir William Smijth, 7th Bt. and Anne Windham, on 10 August 1824.¹ She died on 29 September 1865.¹
     From 10 August 1824, her married name became Smijth-Windham.¹

     William George Windham was born on 26 April 1828.¹ He was the son of Joseph Smijth-Windham and Katherine Trotter.¹ He died on 26 December 1887 at age 59, unmarried.¹
     He was given the name of William George Smijth-Windham at birth.¹ He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England^G.¹ He graduated from Downing College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England^G, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)¹ He gained the rank of Captain in the East Yorkshire Militia.¹ He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Yorkshire.¹ In 1861 his name was legally changed to William George Windham by Royal Licence.¹ He lived at Waghen Hall, Hull, Yorkshire, England^G.¹

     Ashe Windham was born on 18 March 1830.¹ He was the son of Joseph Smijth-Windham and Katherine Trotter.¹ He married Juliet Alexa Maclean, daughter of Colonel Hugh Maclean, on 19 August 1859.¹ He died on 7 September 1909 at age 79.¹
     He was given the name of Ashe Smijth-Windham at birth.¹ He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England^G.¹ He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England^G, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)¹ He held the office of Resident Magistrate of Natal between 1857 and 1867.¹ He held the office of Judge of the Native High Court of Natal between 1879 and 1884.¹ In 1888 his name was legally changed to Ashe Windham by Royal Licence.¹ He lived at Waghen Hall, Hull, Yorkshire, England^G.¹

     Juliet Alexa Maclean was the daughter of Colonel Hugh Maclean.¹ She married Ashe Windham, son of Joseph Smijth-Windham and Katherine Trotter, on 19 August 1859.¹ She died on 8 December 1909.¹
     From 19 August 1859, her married name became Smijth-Windham.¹ From 1888, her married name became Windham.¹

     Colonel Hugh Maclean lived at Coll, Argyllshire, Scotland^G.¹ He gained the rank of Colonel in the Scots Guards.¹

     Ashe Windham was born on 16 March 1863.¹ He was the son of Ashe Windham and Juliet Alexa Maclean.¹ He married Cora Ellen Sowerby Middleton, daughter of Captain Henry Sowerby Middleton, on 3 February 1903.¹ He died on 18 November 1937 at age 74.¹
     He was educated at Diocesan College, Rondebosch, Cape Province, South Africa^G.¹ He graduated from University of the Cape of Good Hope, Cape Town, Cape Province, South Africa^G, in 1881 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)¹ He was in the Natal and Zululand Civil Service between 1881 and 1890.¹ He gained the rank of Captain in the 3rd Battalion, East Yorkshire Regiment.¹ He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for the East Riding, Yorkshire.¹ He fought in the Boer War between 1900 and 1902.¹ He gained the rank of Honorary Major in the 3rd Battalion, East Yorkshire Regiment.¹ He lived at Waghen Hall, Hull, Yorkshire, England^G.¹

     Cora Ellen Sowerby Middleton was the daughter of Captain Henry Sowerby Middleton.¹ She married Ashe Windham, son of Ashe Windham and Juliet Alexa Maclean, on 3 February 1903.¹ She died on 30 December 1948.¹
     From 3 February 1903, her married name became Windham.¹

     Captain Henry Sowerby Middleton gained the rank of Captain in the Oxford Light Infantry.¹

     Sir Ralph Windham was born on 25 March 1905.¹ He was the son of Ashe Windham and Cora Ellen Sowerby Middleton.¹ He married Kathleen Mary FitzHerbert, daughter of Captain Cecil Henry FitzHerbert and Ellen Katharine Lowndes, on 11 September 1946.¹ He died on 6 July 1980 at age 75.¹
     He was educated at Wellington College, Berkshire, England^G.¹ He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England^G, in 1928 with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.)¹ He was awarded the Buchanan Law Prize in 1930.¹ He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England^G, in 1930 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)¹ He was admitted to Lincoln’s In in 1930 entitled to practise as a barrister.¹ He was a legal draftsman for the Government of Palestine in 1935.¹ He held the office of Judge of the District Court [Palestine] in 1942.¹ He held the office of Puisne Judge of the Supreme Court [Ceylon] in 1947.¹ He held the office of Judge of the Supreme Court [Kenya] in 1950.¹ He held the office of Chief Justice of Zanzibar in 1955.¹ He held the office of Judge of the Court of Appeal [East Africa] in 1959.¹ He was awarded the Order of the Brilliant Star of Zanzibar in 1959.¹ He was appointed Knight in 1960.¹ He held the office of Chief Justice of Tanganyika between 1960 and 1965.¹

     Kathleen Mary FitzHerbert was born on 19 February 1918.² She was the daughter of Captain Cecil Henry FitzHerbert and Ellen Katharine Lowndes.^1,3 She married Sir Ralph Windham, son of Ashe Windham and Cora Ellen Sowerby Middleton, on 11 September 1946.¹ She died on 3 December 2002 at age 84.¹
     She was in the Women’s Royal Naval Service during the Second World War.² From 11 September 1946, her married name became Windham.¹ She lived before 1980 at Moreton, Ongar, Essex, England^G.²
