     John Grenville Fortescue was born on 3 May 1896.1 He was the son of John Bevill Fortescue and Dorothy Augusta Hoste.2 He married Daphne Marjory Bourke, daughter of Hon. Algernon Henry Bourke and Guendoline Irene Emily Stanley, on 7 June 1917.1 He died on 30 December 1969 at age 73.3
     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was wounded.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the Reserve of Officers, Coldstream Guards.1
