Thomas de Berkeley1 
Thomas de Berkeley also went by the nick-name of Thomas ‘the Observer’.1 In 1222 he obtained livery of the Castle of Berkeley.1 He gained the title of Lord de Berkeley [feudal baron] in 1222.1

Thomas de Berkeley, 3rd Lord Berkeley1 
Thomas de Berkeley, 3rd Lord Berkeley also went by the nick-name of Thomas ‘the Rich’.1 He was appointed Knight before 1322.1 He fought in the Battle of Boroughbridge on 16 March 1321/22, and was taken prisoner.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Lord Berkeley [E., 1295] on 31 May 1326.1 On 16 October 1326 he was released from Pevenesey Castle.1 He was Joint Custodian of the deposed king, King Edward II on 4 April 1327 at Berkeley Castle, Berkeley, Gloucestershire, EnglandG.1 He fought in the expedition against Scotland in 1328.1 In 1330/31 he was tried by a jury of 12 knights as an accessory to the murder of the deposed King, but was acquitted (actually performed by Sir John Maltravers.)1 He held the office of Chief Warden of Worcestershire in 1336.1 He held the office of Chief Warden of Gloucestershire in 1336.1 He held the office of Chief Warden of Herefordshire in 1336.1 He was Marshal of the English Army in France in 1340.2 He held the office of Captain of the Scottish Marches in 1342.2 He held the office of Warden and Chief Justice in Eyre South of Trent between 1345 and 1348.2 He was on an Embassy to Pope Innocent VI in 1361.2
