He fought in the campaigns in France and Flanders.2 He was appointed Knight Banneret in 1339.2 He held the office of Admiral of the Fleet in the West in 1344.2 He was created 1st Lord Cobham, of Sterborough, in Lingfield, Surrey [England by writ] on 13 November 1347.2 He held the office of Admiral of the Fleet in the West in 1348.2 He was appointed Knight, Order of the Garter (K.G.) circa 1353.2 He was Marshal of the the Prince’s Army at Poitiers in 1356.2
