John Hamilton of Biel, 3rd Lord Belhaven and Stenton1 
He succeeded as the 3rd Lord Belhaven and Stenton, co. Haddington [S., 1647] on 21 June 1708.1 He held the office of Lord of the Bedchamber to HRH Prince of Wales between 1714 and 1721, George.1 He held the office of Representative Peer [Scotland] between 1715 and 1721.1 He was Commander of the Troop of Horse on 13 November 1715 at Sheriffmuir.1 He held the office of Governor of Barbados in 1721, but died on the way to the island.1

He was an Advocate in 1728.1 He was Assistant Solicitor to the Board of Customs in 1733.1 He held the office of Sheriff Depute of Haddington between 1747 and 1762.1 He succeeded as the 5th Lord Belhaven and Stenton, co. Haddington [S., 1647] on 28 August 1764.1
On his death, the Lordship of Belhaven and Stenton was wrongly thought to have become dormant.1
