     James Baird was the son of Gilbert Baird of Auchmeddan and Lilias Baird.^1,2 He married Bethia Dempster, daughter of John Dempster, in 1619.³ He died in 1655.²
     He held the office of Commissary of Edinburgh.¹ He lived at Byth, Aberdeenshire, Scotland^G.¹

     Gilbert Baird of Auchmeddan is the son of George Baird of Auchmedden and Elizabeth Keith.² He married Lilias Baird, daughter of Walter Baird, in 1578.²
     He purchased the estate of Byth, Aberdeenshire, near the waters of Devern.¹ He is believed to have had a warrant from King Charles I to be created Lord Devern, but died before his creation.¹

     John Dempster lived at Pitliver, Fife, Scotland^G.¹

     Margaret Hay was the daughter of Hon. Sir William Hay and Anna Murray.¹ She married Sir John Baird, Lord Newbyth, son of James Baird and Bethia Dempster, before 1648.¹
     From before 1648, her married name became Baird.¹

     Sir William Baird of Newbyth, 1st Bt. was baptised on 12 November 1654.¹ He was the son of Sir John Baird, Lord Newbyth and Margaret Hay.¹ He married, firstly, Helen Gilmour, daughter of Sir John Gilmour of Craigmillar and Margaret Murray.¹ He married, secondly, Margaret St. Clair, daughter of Henry St. Clair, 1st/10th Lord Sinclair and Grizel Cockburn.¹ He died on 17 February 1737 at age 82 at Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland^G.¹ He was buried on 22 February 1737 at Libberton, Midlothian, Scotland^G.¹
     He was created 1st Baronet Baird, of Newbyth, co. Haddington [Scotland] on 4 February 1679/80.¹ He was registered as a Advocate [Scotland] on 31 July 1680.¹

     Helen Gilmour was the daughter of Sir John Gilmour of Craigmillar and Margaret Murray.^1,2 She married Sir William Baird of Newbyth, 1st Bt., son of Sir John Baird, Lord Newbyth and Margaret Hay.¹ She died on 22 April 1701.¹ She was buried on 25 April 1701 at Libberton, Midlothian, Scotland^G.¹
     Her married name became Baird.¹

     Charles Alfred Ramsden was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1968.¹

     Margaret St. Clair was born circa 1686.¹ She was the daughter of Henry St. Clair, 1st/10th Lord Sinclair and Grizel Cockburn.¹ She married Sir William Baird of Newbyth, 1st Bt., son of Sir John Baird, Lord Newbyth and Margaret Hay.¹ She died on 23 December 1756, without issue.¹
     She was also known as Mary St. Clair.² Her married name became Baird.¹

     Janet Yeman married William Sinclair, 1st Earl of Caithness, son of Henry Sinclair, 2nd Earl of Orkney and Egidia Douglas.¹ She died after 5 July 1483.²
     Her married name became Sinclair.¹

     Grizel Cockburn was born on 22 July 1660.² She was the daughter of Sir James Cockburn of that Ilk, 1st Bt. and Grissel Hay.^1,3 She married Henry St. Clair, 1st/10th Lord Sinclair, son of John St. Clair of Hermanston and Catherine Sinclair, Mistress of St. Clair, on 30 December 1680.³ She died circa March 1722/23.³ She was buried on 14 March 1722/23.³
     She was also known as Barbara Cockburn.³ From 30 December 1680, her married name became St. Clair.³
