Lady Augusta Fane1

Lady Augusta Fane was born on 18 September 1761.3 She was the daughter of John Fane, 9th Earl of Westmorland and Augusta Bertie.1,3 She married Lt.-Col. William Lowther, 1st Earl of Lonsdale, son of Rev. Sir William Lowther, 1st Bt. and Anne Zouch, on 12 July 1781.3 She died on 6 March 1838 at age 76.3
Her married name became Lowther. After her marriage, Lady Augusta Fane was styled as Countess of Lonsdale on 24 May 1802.

John Fane, 9th Earl of Westmorland1 
He was educated at Westminster School, Westminster, London, EnglandG.2 He held the office of Commissioner of Taxes between 1760 and 1762.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Tory) for Lyme Regis between 1762 and 1771.2 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Law (LL.D.) by Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, in 1769.2 He succeeded as the 9th Baron Burghersh, co. Sussex [E., 1624] on 12 November 1771.2 He succeeded as the 9th Earl of Westmorland [E., 1624] on 12 November 1771.2
