Franz Ferdinand Erzherzog von Österreich was born on 18 December 1863 at Graz, AustriaG.1 He was the son of Karl Ludwig Joseph Maria Erzherzog von Österreich and Marie Annunciade di Borbone, Principessa di Borbone delle Due Sicilie. He married Sophie Maria Josephine Albina Gräfin Chotek von Chotkowa und Wognin, daughter of Bohyslaw Graf Chotek von Chotkowa und Wognin and Wilhelmina Gräfin Kinsky von Wchinitz und Tettau, on 1 July 1900 at Zákupy, Czech Republic, in a morganatic marriage.1 He died on 28 June 1914 at age 50 at Sarajevo, BosniaG, assassinated by Felipe Princip, triggering World War I.1
He was given the name of Franz Ferdinand Karl Ludwig Joseph Maria at birth.3 He gained the title of Erzherzog von Österreich-Este on 20 November 1875.1,3 He succeeded as the Kronprinz von Österreich on 30 January 1889.1
