     Hon. Rupert Legge was born on 1 January 1951.¹ He is the son of Gerald Humphrey Legge, 9th Earl of Dartmouth and Raine McCorquodale.¹ He married M. Victoria S. Ottley, daughter of Lionel Edward Bruce Ottley, in 1984.¹
     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England^G.¹ He graduated from Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England^G, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)¹ He was admitted to Inner Temple in 1975 entitled to practise as a barrister.¹ He wrote the book The Children of Light, published 1986.¹ He wrote the book Fashionable Circles, published 1991.¹ He wrote the book Playing With Fire, published 1993.¹ He wrote the book A Dangerous Age, published 1995.¹ He lived in 2003 at Hamswell House, Bath, Gloucestershire, England^G.¹

     Humphrey Legge, 8th Earl of Dartmouth was born on 14 March 1888.¹ He was the son of William Heneage Legge, 6th Earl of Dartmouth and Lady Mary Coke.¹ He married Roma Ernestine Horlick, daughter of Sir Ernest Burford Horlick, 2nd Bt. and Jane Shillaber Martin, on 10 April 1923.¹ He died on 16 October 1962 at age 74.¹
     He gained the rank of Commander in the Royal Navy.¹ He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.¹ He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1919.¹ He was awarded the King’s Police Medal (K.P.M.)¹ He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Staffordshire between 1927 and 1939.¹ He was Assistant Chief Constable of Staffordshire between 1928 and 1932.¹ He was Chief Constable of Berkshire between 1932 and 1953.¹ He was awarded the Grand Officer, Order of Orange-Nassau of the Netherlands.¹ He was appointed Commander, Royal Victorian Order (C.V.O.) in 1947.¹ He succeeded as the 9th Baron Dartmouth, of Dartmouth, Devon [E., 1682] on 28 February 1958.¹ He succeeded as the 8th Viscount Lewisham, of co. Kent [G.B., 1711] on 28 February 1958.¹ He succeeded as the 8th Earl of Dartmouth [G.B., 1711] on 28 February 1958.¹

     Major James Bertram Falkner Cartland was born circa 1876 at King’s Norton, Staffordshire, England^G.² He was the son of James Cartland and Flora Falkner. He married Mary Hamilton Scobell, daughter of Sanford George Treweeke Scobell and Edith Palairet, in July 1900. He died on 27 May 1918, killed in action.²
     Major James Bertram Falkner Cartland also went by the nick-name of Bertie. He fought in the First World War.² He gained the rank of Major in the 1st Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment.² He lived at Littlewood House, Poolbrook, Malvern, Worcestershire, England^G.¹

     Mary Hamilton Scobell was born on 5 September 1877. She was the daughter of Sanford George Treweeke Scobell and Edith Palairet. She married Major James Bertram Falkner Cartland, son of James Cartland and Flora Falkner, in July 1900. She died on 21 February 1976 at age 98 at Littlewood House, Poolbrook, Malvern, Worcestershire, England.²
     Mary Hamilton Scobell also went by the nick-name of Polly.

     Major John Ronald Cartland was born on 3 January 1907. He was the son of Major James Bertram Falkner Cartland and Mary Hamilton Scobell. He died on 30 May 1940 at age 33 at Cassel, Germany^G, killed in action.¹
     He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Birmingham, King’s Norton Division between 1935 and 1940.¹ He gained the rank of Major in the 53 Anti-Tank Regiment, Royal Regiment.¹ He fought in the Second World War.¹

     James Anthony Cartland was born on 4 January 1912. He was the son of Major James Bertram Falkner Cartland and Mary Hamilton Scobell. He died on 29 May 1940 at age 28, killed in action.¹ He was buried at Zuidschote^G.
     James Anthony Cartland also went by the nick-name of Tony. He gained the rank of Captain in the 2nd Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment.¹

     Edith Palairet was born on 30 January 1850 at Bradford-on-Avon, Wiltshire, England.¹ She was the daughter of Captain Septimus Henry Palairet and Mary Anne Hamilton. She married Sanford George Treweeke Scobell, son of John Scobell and Eliza Land, on 20 April 1871 at St. James, Westminster, London, England.¹
     From 20 April 1871, her married name became Scobell.

     Mary Anne Hamilton was born in 1822.¹ She was the daughter of Andrew Hamilton. She married Captain Septimus Henry Palairet on 18 April 1843 at Broadmayne, Dorset, England.¹ She died in 1851.¹
     From 18 April 1843, her married name became Palairet.

     Sanford George Treweeke Scobell was born on 10 January 1839 at Lewes, Sussex, England.¹ He was the son of John Scobell and Eliza Land.¹ He married Edith Palairet, daughter of Captain Septimus Henry Palairet and Mary Anne Hamilton, on 20 April 1871 at St. James, Westminster, London, England.¹ He died on 18 June 1912 at age 73.¹
     He lived at Redmarley, Gloucestershire, England^G.² Sanford George Treweeke Scobell usually went by his middle name of George.
