     He was appointed Commander, Royal Victorian Order (C.V.O.)¹ He was Colonel of the Irish Guards.¹

     Sir Douglas Frederick Rawdon Dawson was born on 25 April 1854.¹ He was the son of Lt.-Col. Hon. Thomas Vesey Dawson and Hon. Augusta Frederica Annie FitzPatrick.¹ He married Aimée Evelyn Pirie, daughter of Gordon Pirie, on 15 December 1903.¹
     He became an unknown person ‘s adoptive father.² He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.)¹ He fought in the Egypt Campaign in 1882.¹ He fought in the Sudan Campaign.¹ He fought in the Nile Expedition between 1884 and 1885.¹ He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Royal Victorian Order (G.C.V.O.)¹ He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel and Brevet Colonel in the Coldstream Guards.¹ He held the office of Secretary of the Order of the Garter in 1904.¹ He was Comptroller in the Lord Chamberlain’s Department in 1907.¹

     Aimée Evelyn Pirie was born in 1864 at Chateau de Varennes, France.² She was the daughter of Gordon Pirie.¹ She married, firstly, Herbert Oakley in 1889.^1,2 She married, secondly, Sir Douglas Frederick Rawdon Dawson, son of Lt.-Col. Hon. Thomas Vesey Dawson and Hon. Augusta Frederica Annie FitzPatrick, on 15 December 1903.¹ She died on 24 December 1946 at Remenham Palace, Henley-on-Thames, London, England.²
     She became an unknown person ‘s adoptive mother.² From 1889, her married name became Oakley.¹ From 15 December 1903, her married name became Dawson.¹ She was appointed Dame Grand Cross, Order of the British Empire (G.B.E.) in 1918.³ She was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.)²

     Herbert Oakley married Aimée Evelyn Pirie, daughter of Gordon Pirie, in 1889.^1,2 He died in 1899.^1,2

     Hon. Richard Maitland Westenra Dawson was born on 30 January 1845.¹ He was the son of Richard Dawson, 1st Earl of Dartrey and Augusta Stanley.¹ He married Jane Emily Long, daughter of Colonel Samuel Long and Emily Herbert, on 20 August 1878.¹ He died on 7 August 1914 at age 69 at Chelsea, London, England^G.^1,2
     He gained the rank of Captain in the 92nd Highlanders.¹ He held the office of High Sheriff of Devon in 1909.¹

     Jane Emily Long was born on 22 January 1855.² She was the daughter of Colonel Samuel Long and Emily Herbert.^1,2 She married Hon. Richard Maitland Westenra Dawson, son of Richard Dawson, 1st Earl of Dartrey and Augusta Stanley, on 20 August 1878.¹ She died in 1932 at Totnes, Devon, England^G.²
     From 20 August 1878, her married name became Dawson.¹

     Lady Charlotte Elizabeth Smith-Stanley was born on 11 July 1801 at Knowsley Hall, Lancashire, England^G.¹ She was the daughter of Edward Smith-Stanley, 13th Earl of Derby and Charlotte Margaret Hornby.¹ She married Edward Penrhyn.
     Her married name became Penrhyn.

     Richard Long Dawson was born on 23 June 1879.¹ He was the son of Hon. Richard Maitland Westenra Dawson and Jane Emily Long.¹ He died on 20 November 1914 at age 35, killed in action.¹
     He lived at Holne Park, Ashburton, Devon, England^G.¹ He fought in the First World War.¹ He gained the rank of Captain in the Coldstream Guards.¹

     Emily Mary Dawson was born on 31 December 1881.¹ She was the daughter of Hon. Richard Maitland Westenra Dawson and Jane Emily Long.¹ She died on 24 April 1903 at age 21, unmarried.¹
