Lt.-Col. Wilfred William Ashley, 1st and last Baron Mount Temple1 
Lt.-Col. Wilfred William Ashley, 1st and last Baron Mount Temple was born on 13 September 1867.3 He was the son of Rt. Hon. Anthony Evelyn Melbourne Ashley and Sybella Charlotte Farquhar.3,4 He married, firstly, Amalia Mary Maud Cassel, daughter of Rt. Hon. Sir Ernest Cassel and Annette Mary Maud Maxwell, on 4 January 1901.1 He married, secondly, Muriel Emily Spencer, daughter of Reverend Walter Spencer, on 29 August 1914.3 He died on 3 July 1939 at age 71, without surviving male issue.3
He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow, London, EnglandG.3 He was educated at Magdalen College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG.3 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Blackpool between 1906 and 1918.3 He gained the rank of Major in the 3rd Battalion, Hampshire Regiment.3 He was Lieutenant-Colonel of the 20th Battalion, King’s Liverpool Regiment.3 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Lancashire, Fylde Division between 1918 and 1922.3 He held the office of Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Transport between 1922 and 1923.3 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for New Forest and Hampshire, Christchurch Division between 1922 and 1932.3 He held the office of Under-Secretary of State for War between 1923 and 1924.3 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1924.3 He held the office of Under-Secretary of State for the Minister of Transport between 1924 and 1929.3 He held the office of High Steward of Romsey.3 He gained the rank of Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel in the Grenadier Guards.3 He was created 1st Baron Mount Temple, of Lee, co. Southampton [U.K.] on 13 January 1932.3 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.5
