He graduated from Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He fought in the Trasvaal Campaign in 1881.1 He fought in the Tel-el-Kebir Campaign in 1882.1 He gained the rank of Major in 1898 in the King’s Royal Rifle Corps (60th.)1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for the West Riding, Yorkshire.1 He succeeded as the 12th Baronet Pilkington, of Stanley, near Wakefield and Nether Bradley, also co. Yorks [N.S., 1635] on 25 June 1901.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel between 1903 and 1908 in the 6th Battalion, King’s Royal Rifle Corps.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of Yorkshire between 1911 and 1912.1 He was commander of the 14th Battalion, King’s Royal Rifle Corps between 1914 and 1916.1
