Hon. John Astor was born on 26 September 1923.1 He was the son of Lt.-Col. John Jacob Astor, 1st Baron Astor of Hever and Lady Violet Mary Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound.1 He married, firstly, Diana Kathleen de Vere Drummond, daughter of George Henry de Vere Drummond and Helena Kathleen Holt, on 19 July 1950.1 He married, secondly, Penelope Eve Bradford, daughter of Commander George Francis Norton Bradford, in 1982.1 He died on 27 December 1987 at age 64.1,3
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He gained the rank of Flight Lieutenant in 1942 in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.1 He fought in the Second World War between 1942 and 1946.1 He held the office of County Councillor for Berkshire in 1953.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for Newbury between 1964 and 1974.1 He held the office of Parliamentary Private Secretary in 1970, to the Minister of Overseas Development.1
