     He was awarded the Chevalier, Ordre national de la Légion d’honneur.¹ He was awarded the Croix de Guerre.¹ He gained the rank of Commandant in the French Foreign Legion.¹ He gained the rank of Commandant in the Swiss Cavalry.¹

John Jacob Astor, 1st Baron Astor of Hever and Lady Violet Mary Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound.¹ He married, firstly, Diana Kathleen de Vere Drummond, daughter of George Henry de Vere Drummond and Helena Kathleen Holt, on 19 July 1950.¹ He married, secondly, Penelope Eve Bradford, daughter of Commander George Francis Norton Bradford, in 1982.¹ He died on 27 December 1987 at age 64.^1,3
