Colonel Alexander Charles Hamilton, 10th Lord Belhaven and Stenton1 
He gained the rank of Colonel in the Royal Engineers.2 He fought in the Zulu War in 1879.2 He was Brigadier of the Surrey Volunteer Infantry Brigade between 1888 and 1902.5 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Geographical Society (F.R.G.S.)2 He succeeded as the 10th Lord Belhaven and Stenton, co. Haddington [S., 1647] on 6 September 1893.3 In July 1894 his title of Lord Belhaven and Stenton was confirmed in his favour by the House of Lords.2 He was awarded the Territorial Decoration (T.D.)5 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Lanarkshire.5 He held the office of Representative Peer (Liberal Unionist) [Scotland] in 1900.2 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Lanarkshire.5
