He was educated at Westminster School, Westminster, London, EnglandG.1 He was educated at Royal Naval Academy, Portsmouth, Hampshire, EnglandG.1 He gained the rank of Colonel between 1779 and 1787 in the Royal Marines.1 He gained the rank of Rear-Admiral in 1787.1 He gained the rank of Rear-Admiral in 1790.1 He gained the rank of Admiral of the Blue in 1795.1 He was created 1st Baron Hotham of South Dalton [Ireland] on 17 March 1797, with special remainder to the male heirs of his fahter.1 He gained the rank of Admiral of the White in 1799.1 He gained the rank of Admiral of the Red in 1805.1 He succeeded as the 11th Baronet Hotham [E., 1622] in 1811.1
