     He fought in the Burma War between 1886 and 1887.1 He fought in the China-Lushai Expedition between 1889 and 1890.1 He was Deputy Inspector General of Indian Police.1

     Lt.-Col. John Claude Thurlow Rivett-Carnac was born on 14 June 1888.1 He was the son of John Thurlow Rivett-Carnac and Edith Emily Brownlow.2 He married, firstly, Ola Jane Wilson, daughter of S. Wilson, in 1923.1 He married, secondly, Hon. Evelyn Hope Balfour, daughter of Arthur Balfour, 1st Baron Riverdale and Frances Josephine Keighley Bingham, on 6 June 1953.1 He died on 26 July 1975 at age 87 at Eastbourne, Sussex, England.3
     He was educated at Eastbourne College, Eastbourne, Sussex, EnglandG.1 He was with the Indian Police.1 He gained the rank of officer in the 35th Scinde Horse India and 13th Bengal Lancers Mesopotamia.1 He fought in the First World War.1 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.) in 1918.1 He was Chief Constable of Huntingdonshire between 1928 and 1957.1 He was Chief Constable of Isle of Ely between 1931 and 1957.1 He was awarded the King’s Police Medal (K.P.M.)1 He fought in the Second World War.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel between 1943 and 1945 in the Military Government.1 He was Chief of Public Safety with Southern France with the U.S. 6th Army in 1944.1
